How different is it for you to drive from the "passanger" seat now? I've never driven that way (or been anywhere where I've needed to) so I can't imagine it. Sucks that the car doesn't give you any indication that the lights are still, and that it's caused you so many headaches. Thank God for the kindness of strangers (and neighbors!) And I don't know why, but I really like that whole gift-giving thing...very considerate and thoughtful.
